Snowcap Studio

  • C#
  • Avalonia
  • .NET 10 Native AOT
  • PostgreSQL
  • Windows UI Automation

A fast, native desktop tool for PostgreSQL: think SSMS, but cross-platform and built for PostgreSQL. It's written in C# with Avalonia and compiled ahead of time with .NET 10 into a single native executable. I built it with the agent team: Linus leads development, and the others review.

1,000+unit tests
0AOT warnings allowed
50Mrows streamed into the grid
~24klines of C#
  • A result grid that keeps up. It's virtualized and streams millions of rows smoothly, and Cancel stops a running query within about 100 ms.
  • Column-first SQL completion. Type a column name before any FROM, and Studio offers matching columns from every table, then writes the FROM for you.
  • Designers that can't hurt you. A visual query designer, plus view, function and table designers that dry-run every change in a rolled-back transaction before saving it.
  • A schema browser you can fly through. A 2.5D "galaxy" view of the whole database.
The schema browser: the whole database as a galaxy, one cluster per schema. Click into a schema, then a table, to see its keys and neighbors.
Every schema becomes a live relationship map: an ERD that never goes out of date.
The visual query designer joining orders, customer and regions
The visual query designer. Drop in tables, and Studio joins them on their keys and writes the SQL.
The query editor with 1,000 rows of results
The query editor, with results streaming into the virtualized grid.
A relationship map showing an inferred foreign key
Studio infers relationships from column names, even when the database never declared them.
The table designer's column grid and properties panel
The table designer: an SSMS-style column grid and properties panel. Every change is dry-run in a rolled-back transaction before it's saved.
